The Blues defender helped earn the Blues first clean sheet away from home in the league this season in difficult personal circumstances. Tammy Abraham has praised his team-mate Antonio Rudiger for getting on with his match after he was allegedly racially abused by a  Tottenham supporter in  Chelsea 's 2-0 away win. Rudiger was caught on the television cameras gesturing to suggest that he had heard monkey chants from a fan in the home end shortly after Son Hueng-min was sent off for a foul on the Blues defender in the second half. Three Premier League stars have been shortlisted for the award, with the current holder hoping to emulate the likes of George Weah with a third win. Mohamed Salah faces competition from  Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane and  Manchester City 's Riyad Mahrez in his bid to be named African Player of the Year for the third time in a row.
