Real Madrid 0-0 Athletic Bilbao: Back-to-back blanks for Los Blancos.

Image
Toni Kroos and Nacho hit the crossbar before Luka Jovic hit the post in a frustrating 0-0 draw for Real Madrid against Athletic Bilbao. Real Madrid allowed  Barcelona to take an advantage into LaLiga's mid-season break after Athletic Bilbao held them to a second goalless draw in a week. Following Wednesday's stalemate at Camp Nou in El Clasico, Zinedine Zidane's men drew a blank once more against their obdurate Basque opponents. Toni Kroos and Nacho hit the crossbar either side of half-time and substitute Luka Jovic struck the base of the post with four minutes to play. Champions Barca lead their great rivals by two points after 18 matches, having dispatched  Alaves  4-1 on Saturday, while Athletic edge up to seventh and remain firmly in the European hunt Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Jr leant a vibrant edge to the Madrid attack during the opening exchanges, with the latter denied by the boot of Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simon at the end of a slaloming run. JUVENTUS Ronaldo, Dybala, Higuain attack not why Juventus lost Supercoppa - Sarri.

Image
The Old Lady's three-man attack was not to blame for their defeat in the final, according to their coach. Maurizio Sarri conceded  Juventus  lacked energy in their 3-1 Supercoppa Italiana defeat to  Lazio , but the coach insisted the selection of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain in attack was not to blame. The Bianconeri were beaten by Lazio for the second time this month, failing to defend their Supercoppa title as Senad Lulic scored one goal and had a hand in another. The loss in  Saudi Arabia  came despite Ronaldo, Dybala and Higuain starting together again, as they had in wins over  Udinese  and  Sampdoria . Yet while acknowledging flaws in Juve's display, Sarri was keen to point out Higuain was substituted and replaced by Aaron Ramsey - a midfielder - with the game still level at 1-1. "We arrived at this game short of energy, physically and mentally," Sarri told a news conference. "This happens. Meanwh...

CHELSEA 'He overcame it' - Abraham praises Rudiger's reaction to racist abuse following win over Spurs.

Image
The Blues defender helped earn the Blues first clean sheet away from home in the league this season in difficult personal circumstances. Tammy Abraham has praised his team-mate Antonio Rudiger for getting on with his match after he was allegedly racially abused by a  Tottenham supporter in  Chelsea 's 2-0 away win. Rudiger was caught on the television cameras gesturing to suggest that he had heard monkey chants from a fan in the home end shortly after Son Hueng-min was sent off for a foul on the Blues defender in the second half. The  Germany  international then spoke to Chelsea captain Azpilicueta who informed referee Anthony Taylor of the incident. FIFA's protocol against racism was then implemented which led to several announcements over the club's speakers warning against incidents of 'racist behaviour among spectators is interfering with the game'. Abraham, who himself has suffered racial abuse this season after he missed a penalty against  Live...

CHELSEA 'He will have broken ribs for sure' - Mourinho makes light of Rudiger reaction following 'strange' Son red.

Image
The Special One was unable to claim a share of the points against his old club and focused on a key refereeing decision during the second half. Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho rather unsubtly suggested that  Chelsea 's Antonio Rudiger made the most of his clash with Heung-Min Son that earned a red card for the Korean.  Spurs were looking to fight back from two goals down in the second half of Sunday's match when they were dealt what proved to be a decisive blow.  Son and Rudiger tangled when both men chased a ball deep in the Chelsea half, with the Spurs man ending up on the floor.  Clearly unhappy with the challenge that left him on the turf, Son petulantly raked his studs across Rudiger's chest from a prone position, an act that sent the defender hurtling to the ground himself.  Following a lengthy VAR consultation referee Anthony Taylor sent Son packing, the winger picking up his third red card in 2019.  But speaking after the 2-0 defeat, Mourin...

LIVERPOOL Liverpool stars Salah & Mane battle Man City's Mahrez for African Player of the Year.

Three Premier League stars have been shortlisted for the award, with the current holder hoping to emulate the likes of George Weah with a third win. Mohamed Salah faces competition from  Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane and  Manchester City 's Riyad Mahrez in his bid to be named African Player of the Year for the third time in a row. The Premier League stars have been named as the final three contenders for the award, which has belonged to  Egypt  international Salah for the past two years. Algeria  winger Mahrez won it while still at  Leicester City  in 2016 but Mane looks to be Salah's closest competitor after twice finishing as runner-up to his fellow Anfield favourite. The pair were both essential in Liverpool's march to their first  Champions League  title since 2005 this year, won thanks to a Salah penalty in the final against  Tottenham .  His strike partner, however, has also enjoyed a rich vein of form for both cl...
